Tariffs have defined the tech industry this year, causing massive changes to product pricing, manufacturing, and distribution. However, one of the world’s biggest tech companies says that its hot new product isn’t actually being impacted by tariffs, despite a recent price increase.
Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed the issue during an interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer, discussing the tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump. “There’s no increase for tariffs in the prices, to be totally clear,” he said, making sure to place no blame on the tariffs for the price changes.
The iPhone 17 Pro, which was announced at an Apple event earlier this month, starts at $1,099—a $100 increase from the usual starting price of previous iPhone Pro models. Similarly, the iPhone Air, a brand new addition to Apple’s smartphone lineup, is priced $100 more than the Air model it replaced.
While Tim Cook confirmed that these price hikes are not a result of tariffs, he did not offer an alternative explanation for the increases.
In other news, Tim Cook recently attended a dinner at the White House, joining other tech CEOs and Donald Trump.
