**Mumbai: Andheri Railway Police Register Case of Abetment to Suicide in Property Dispute Death**
The Andheri railway police have registered a case against four individuals for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 46-year-old man. The man reportedly committed suicide by lying on the railway tracks, where he was run over by a local train. The incident took place on September 19.
According to the railway police, the deceased, Ramesh Gupta, was a caterer residing in Jogeshwari West. Around 8 pm on September 19, he allegedly lay down on the tracks near Andheri railway station, where a local train struck him. The police arrived at the scene following the information received, but no suicide note was found at the time. Gupta was transported to Cooper Hospital, Vile Parle West, where he was declared dead by a doctor. Subsequently, the Andheri railway police registered the case as an accidental death report.
A few days later, Gupta’s 12-year-old daughter found a suicide note hidden in her notebook and informed her mother. The note revealed that Gupta had taken his life due to a property dispute. He owned a room in Nalasopara that was to be acquired for metro construction and had received a substantial payment from the metro authorities.
However, a couple frequently claimed to be the rightful owners of the room and repeatedly demanded money from Gupta. In the suicide note, Gupta mentioned that the couple’s continuous demands and harassment drove him to take this drastic step.
Following this revelation, Gupta’s wife approached the railway police. On October 1, the police registered a case against the couple and two unidentified individuals who allegedly troubled Gupta on behalf of the couple. The case is filed under Sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (general explanation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
