Brutal Assault on Elderly Man by Youths in Azhikode Over Traffic Dispute
Azhikode (Kerala): An elderly man was brutally assaulted and verbally abused by a group of youths following a dispute over not giving way to a car, according to reports. The victim, 77-year-old Balakrishnan, a resident of Mundachali in Azhikkal, Kerala, suffered the attack in a shocking incident that has since gone viral on social media.
In the widely circulated video, two young men can be seen punching, pushing, and slapping Balakrishnan while hurling verbal abuse at him. The disturbing footage has sparked outrage among viewers online.
Details of the Attack
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening around 4 PM, right in front of Balakrishnan’s house on Shivaji Road. According to Balakrishnan, he was sitting in his car when two young men approached him, asked something, and suddenly struck him on the back of the head without any apparent reason.
“There was space for another car to pass. I still don’t know why they assaulted me,” Balakrishnan stated. He later realized the attack was related to a dispute over not moving his car to allow another vehicle through.
Eyewitnesses and reports suggest that the attackers were between 20 and 25 years old. Another youth was seen recording the entire incident on video, which was later shared widely across social media platforms.
Repeated Confrontation and Threats
Balakrishnan has claimed that he does not know the youths involved and remains unsure why they targeted him. Approximately half an hour after the initial assault, the group confronted him again at a shop near the Azhikkal Boat Bridge, where they assaulted him once more.
Additionally, another video showing one of the youths threatening Balakrishnan in front of his house is also circulating online.

The Valappattanam police have confirmed that a case has been registered against one individual in connection with the incident. An investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend all those involved.
The incident highlights the urgent need for community vigilance and respect towards senior citizens, as well as the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.
