In a high-voltage ICC Women’s World Cup (CWC) 2025 encounter against India, Australia’s Annabel Sutherland delivered a standout bowling performance that helped her team restrict India to 330 all out in 48.5 overs. The all-rounder claimed her maiden five-wicket haul in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs), showcasing her skill and composure on a challenging day with the ball for Australia.

**Sutherland Breaks Indian Opening Stand**

Batting first, India got off to a blazing start with their opening pair, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, putting together a massive 155-run partnership. Mandhana scored a brilliant 80, while Rawal notched her maiden World Cup half-century, scoring 75.

However, Sutherland struck decisive blows when she dismissed Rawal with a well-directed short ball, caught by Ellyse Perry at deep square leg. This wicket broke the solid opening stand and shifted momentum.

**Late Wickets Seal the Deal**

As India approached the 300-run mark, Sutherland continued her impressive spell by removing Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh in quick succession. Rodrigues scored a quick 33 off 21 balls before being caught by Beth Mooney at mid-on. Ghosh contributed 32 runs.

Sutherland didn’t stop there; she also took the wickets of Kranti Gaud and Shree Charani to complete her five-wicket haul. Her brilliant bowling in the final overs saw India collapse from 294/4 to 330 all out in just 48.5 overs.

**Outstanding Figures and Milestones**

Sutherland finished with figures of 5/40 from 9.5 overs, marking her maiden five-wicket haul in WODIs. This performance helped her surpass the 50-wicket milestone, bringing her career tally to 53 wickets from 45 matches at an average of 20.60 and an economy rate of 4.55.

Notably, 22 of her wickets have come in just 10 games against India at an impressive average of 15.63. With this spell, her World Cup wicket tally now stands at 13 at an average of 15.15.

According to Cricbuzz, Sutherland became only the third Australian bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in a Women’s World Cup match, joining Tina Macpherson and Lyn Fullston (who achieved the feat twice).

Despite Sutherland’s heroics, Australia conceded over 300 runs for the first time in a World Cup contest.

**Sophie Molineux’s All-Round Contribution**

Alongside Sutherland, left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux also made an impact with the ball, taking three wickets for 75 runs in her 10 overs. Molineux now has 29 wickets from 15 WODIs, maintaining a strong average of 14.86. Against India, she has nine wickets at an average of 28.33.

Annabel Sutherland’s breakthrough bowling performance was a key highlight in a thrilling contest, showcasing why she is a vital asset for Australia’s World Cup campaign.
