In a high-voltage ICC Women’s World Cup (CWC) 2025 clash against India, Australia’s all-rounder Annabel Sutherland delivered a match-winning performance with the ball. She claimed her maiden five-wicket haul in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs), helping to restrict India to 330 all out in 48.5 overs.

### Early Struggles and Breaking the Opening Stand

India batted first and got off to a flying start, with openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal putting together a massive 155-run partnership. Mandhana impressed with a knock of 80, while Rawal surpassed her maiden World Cup half-century with a well-played 75.

However, Sutherland struck first by dismissing Rawal. A sharp short ball was caught by Ellyse Perry at deep square leg, breaking the crucial opening stand and giving Australia a vital breakthrough.

### Striking in the Death Overs

As India neared the 300-run mark, Sutherland picked up momentum and took key wickets in quick succession. She dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh, who scored 32 runs, turning the tide in Australia’s favor.

Rodrigues fell after an aggressive 33-ball 33, caught by Beth Mooney at mid-on. Sutherland didn’t stop there—she cleaned up Kranti Gaud and Shree Charani to complete her five-wicket haul, finishing with stunning figures of 5/40 from 9.5 overs. Her spell was crucial as India collapsed from 294/4 to 330 all out in just 48.5 overs.

### Milestones and Stats

This impressive haul marked Sutherland’s first five-wicket performance in WODIs. With 53 wickets in 45 matches at an average of 20.60 and economy rate of 4.55, she has firmly established herself as a key bowler for Australia.

Notably, 22 of her wickets have come in 10 games against India, at an average of 15.63, and she has now taken 13 wickets in this World Cup alone at an outstanding average of 15.15.

### Third Australian with a World Cup Five-Wicket Haul

According to Cricbuzz, Sutherland has become the third Australian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Women’s World Cup, joining the ranks of Tina Macpherson and Lyn Fullston (who achieved this feat twice).

Despite Sutherland’s brilliance with the ball, Australia conceded over 300 runs for the first time in a World Cup match, setting up an intense contest ahead.

### Sophie Molineux’s Three-Wicket Effort

Left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux also made an impact, picking up three wickets but conceding 75 runs in her 10 overs. Molineux now has 29 wickets in 15 WODIs at an average of 14.86, including nine wickets against India at an average of 28.33.

Annabel Sutherland’s standout bowling effort was the highlight of a thrilling encounter, showcasing her growing prowess on the world stage and lending Australia a strong chance as the tournament progresses.
