McPherson County State’s Attorney Austin Hoffman registers “Hoffman for Attorney General” candidate committee.

From the South Dakota Secretary of State

Last night, McPherson County State’s Attorney Austin Hoffman registered a campaign committee to run for the Office of Attorney General. The committee is named “Austin Hoffman for AG” and was registered by Pat Powers.

There is no official press release yet, but this filing strongly indicates that Austin Hoffman intends to enter the race for Attorney General.

Austin Hoffman comes from a family with a notable political legacy in South Dakota. He is the son of former legislator Charlie Hoffman and the grandson of LeRoy G. Hoffman, who served in the South Dakota Senate and was a candidate for governor in the 1978 primary. Should Austin succeed, he would become the third generation of his family to serve in Pierre, although he would be doing so by skipping the legislature altogether.

Currently, Hoffman serves as a member of the Open Meeting Commission. This position is shared with the only other announced candidate for Attorney General so far, Fall River County State’s Attorney Lance Russell.

Stay tuned to this page for more updates—we expect an official announcement from Austin Hoffman in the near future.
