Euro 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Sedan

This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE sedan is a European-market example initially acquired by the selling dealer in 2010. The car was listed on Bring a Trailer (BaT) in October 2017 before being sold to a customer of the selling dealer in 2018. It was later reacquired by the dealer, who performed several service and repair tasks in 2022, including exhaust system repairs, installation of new tires, and replacement of shocks, chrome bumpers, and the turn signal relay.

Powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, this W108 280SE is finished in blue over a Parchment MB-Tex and cloth interior. The car features classic equipment such as 14″ steel wheels with painted wheel covers, disc brakes on all four corners, and a heater for comfort.

Exterior details include a hood ornament, polished trim, and a single side mirror. According to the selling dealer, the bumpers were replaced in 2022, the right-rear quarter panel was repaired with paint blended into the adjacent door, and pinholes on the front and rear fenders were filled. Additionally, the federalized side marker lenses were removed to enhance the car’s classic European look. Paint meter readings are available in the image gallery.

The 14″ steel wheels come with polished rings and body-color centers, mounted with 205/70 Hankook Kinergy ST tires. Power-assisted disc brakes provide reliable stopping power at all four corners. The shocks and tires were also replaced in March 2022, ensuring a smooth and safe ride.

Inside, the cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in Parchment MB-Tex and cloth, complemented by color-coordinated carpets and door panels. Comfort features include a heater, vent quarter windows, and manual wind-up windows. The two-spoke steering wheel, with a chrome horn ring, fronts a 240 km/h speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure.

The five-digit odometer reads just 24,000 kilometers (approximately 14,000 miles). The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six engine was factory equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection for smooth and efficient power delivery. Routine maintenance includes an oil change and battery replacement completed in 2025.

Exhaust components replaced in 2022 include the front header pipe, central exhaust section, and rear muffler. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the four-speed automatic transmission, maintaining the traditional Mercedes-Benz driving experience.

This 1971 280SE sedan is offered in New York and comes with a data card, partial service records, a tool kit, and a New Mexico title. Please note that the title lists the car as a 1971 model year but is missing the last digit (8) of the VIN.

This well-maintained Mercedes-Benz 280SE presents a unique opportunity to own a classic European sedan with documented history and recent maintenance.
