ChatGPT Atlas is a new browser from OpenAI

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has unveiled ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser powered by its popular AI language model. Currently available exclusively for macOS devices, ChatGPT Atlas aims to enhance the browsing experience by integrating AI assistance directly into the web interface.

The browser features a sidebar that pops up ChatGPT, allowing users to ask questions or issue commands while surfing the internet. For example, a user can request details about nearby hiking areas while browsing Vrbo or order items for a beach trip through Instacart, all within the browsing session.

This functionality is part of what OpenAI calls “Agent Mode,” a feature that enables ChatGPT to interact with websites on the user’s behalf. However, Agent Mode is currently accessible only to subscribers on the Plus, Pro, and Business plans.

OpenAI has released a brief video demonstrating ChatGPT Atlas in action, showcasing the seamless integration of AI assistance during everyday browsing tasks. Additionally, the ChatGPT Atlas website provides more detailed information about the browser and its capabilities.

An important aspect of ChatGPT Atlas is the level of control users have over their data. Users will be able to manage what information ChatGPT remembers, helping the AI determine the most relevant data when responding to inquiries.

Overall, ChatGPT Atlas represents a step forward in combining AI technology with web browsing, offering a more interactive and personalized online experience for macOS users.
