CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour has revealed that her ovarian cancer has returned, RadarOnline.com can confirm. She shared the heartbreaking news during an appearance on the *Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story* podcast.

“I have it again,” Amanpour said somberly. “But it’s being very well managed and so this is one of the things that people have to understand about some cancers.”

Amanpour explained that although she “had all of the relevant organs removed,” the cancer “came back a couple times in a lymph node.”

### Christiane Amanpour’s Cancer Is a ‘Rare Type’

On the podcast, Amanpour’s doctor, Dr. Angela George, described her cancer as a “rare type” that accounts for less than 10% of ovarian cancer cases.

Dr. George also shared that Amanpour is currently undergoing immunotherapy. Fortunately, Amanpour revealed the treatment has been “the opposite of grueling,” and she is experiencing no side effects. She takes daily pills and receives infusions at the hospital once every six weeks.

Since her initial diagnosis, Amanpour has had routine check-ups every three months. It was during these regular appointments that doctors discovered her cancer had returned for a second and now a third time.

“The fact that I’m monitored all the time is a superb insurance policy,” Amanpour noted.

### Amanpour Touched by Support During Her Cancer Battle

Discussing her cancer journey, Amanpour grew emotional as she reflected on the outpouring of support she received. “I never actually asked for help before…and when I did, I got it,” she shared.

“From my family, my friends, my colleagues, from everybody. And it was touching but it was really helpful, really amazing.”

She explained that the support “really sustained me because it’s not just the illness, it’s the state of mind. And to have all these people who just literally every day were asking me how I was, how they could help…the community is actually vital, and I’m just so very lucky that I had that.”

### Amanpour’s Initial Battle With Ovarian Cancer

Christiane Amanpour was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2021. Ten days after her diagnosis, she underwent surgery followed by 18 weeks of chemotherapy.

As she neared the end of her treatment, Amanpour opened up about the experience in a 2021 interview, saying, “Tomorrow is my last session after 18 weeks.” She described the process as “grueling, fatiguing, tiring, and emotionally wearing as well, not to mention physically and can be scary.”

Amanpour expressed deep gratitude for the support she received: “Two unbelievable women, a surgeon and [an] oncologist who looked after me, the incredible support of my friends, my family, my colleagues, my bosses — and that has carried me through.”

She also emphasized the importance of early detection in overcoming cancer. “I would not be swayed when I felt a pain that was unusual and I pursued it to the very end of getting my very first ultrasound, which is the benchmark for then having a baseline to know whether you’ve caught it early in time, and therefore cure it — and I use that word advisedly — or not. And whether then you’re left to manage it and try to deal with it in the best way possible. I was in the first case,” Amanpour explained.

Back in April 2022, Amanpour also urged women to be vigilant about their health, saying, “Ovarian cancer is known as the invisible killer. Get all the scans that you can. We women know better what’s going on with our own bodies than anybody. We can trust ourselves. If there’s something wrong, pursue it.”

Christiane Amanpour’s openness about her health journey continues to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and the critical importance of early detection and support.
