BOSTON (AP) — Pavel Zacha scored the game-winning goal with just 6 seconds left in overtime, and Joonas Korpisalo made 20 saves to lead the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. This win marks Boston’s fifth straight.
Morgan Geekie and Sean Kuraly both scored in the second period, giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead. However, Claude Giroux tied the game at 2-2 for Ottawa midway through the third period. Boston had a chance to win in the final 30 seconds of regulation, but ex-Bruin goaltender Linus Ullmark made a crucial save to keep the Senators alive.
In overtime, Charlie McAvoy fired a shot through Ullmark’s pads, and Zacha capitalized by skating in and slamming the rebound into the net to seal the win for Boston.
Andrew Peeke contributed two assists for the Bruins, who have now won six of their last seven games following a tough stretch where they lost six in a row.
For Ottawa, Michael Amadio scored a goal, while Giroux added a goal and an assist. Ullmark finished with 22 saves but took his first loss against his former team since being traded to the Senators prior to the 2024-25 season. Notably, Ullmark was the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner with Boston.
The goaltending situation for Boston has shifted this season, with Jeremy Swayman retained on an eight-year, $66 million contract and Korpisalo serving as the backup.
Early in the game, Amadio converted a two-on-one opportunity on a pass from Shane Pinto about six minutes in to give Ottawa the initial lead. Boston responded early in the second period when Peeke’s shot from the right circle beat Ullmark, bouncing off the post before settling behind the netminder. Geekie quickly followed up by sweeping the puck into the net to tie the game 1-1.
The score remained tied until Tanner Jeannot battled along the boards and fed Kuraly, who scored to put Boston ahead 2-1.
Up Next: The Senators travel to Philadelphia to face the Flyers on Saturday, while the Bruins play the Toronto Maple Leafs that same night.
