After passing behind the sun in October, interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS is once again visible from Earth. Astronomers worldwide are now photographing this rare visitor in the pre-dawn sky.
Michael Jaeger of Austria has been closely tracking the comet since its reappearance on November 4th. “We have something unusual to report,” he says. “3I/ATLAS showed a complex tail structure early this morning (Nov. 8th).”
Jaeger explained, “At the time of exposure, the comet was 7–10° above the horizon. By the end of the observation, twilight interfered, and the session took place under bright moonlight from a mountain location.”
Despite the challenging conditions, these observations are providing new insights into this fascinating interstellar traveler. Stay tuned for more updates as Comet 3I/ATLAS continues its journey through our solar system.
