RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Teagan Moore scored 22 points as Western Kentucky defeated Eastern Kentucky 87-79 on Monday. Moore also contributed six rebounds and three steals for the Hilltoppers (2-0).
Grant Newell added 15 points, shooting 5 of 14 from the field, including 2 for 9 from beyond the arc, and went 3 for 4 from the free-throw line. Armelo Boone finished with 14 points on 6 of 13 shooting, including 1 for 4 from three-point range.
For the Colonels (1-1), Austin Ball led the scoring with 20 points. Montavious Myrick contributed 16 points, five assists, and two blocks, while Turner Buttry added 14 points.
The first half ended with Western Kentucky narrowly leading 37-36. Moore paced the Hilltoppers in the opening half, scoring 12 points.
Western Kentucky took the lead for good with 2:42 remaining in the second half when Moore made a layup, putting the team ahead 74-72.
