Kansas State builds 24-point 2nd-half lead before holding on to beat Cal 99-96

P. J. Haggerty scored 23 points, Khamari McGriff added 21, and Nate Johnson contributed 20 as Kansas State built a big lead before hanging on to edge California 99-96. David Castillo also chipped in with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Wildcats (3-0).

Chris Bell was impressive for Cal, making 7 of 9 from beyond the arc and scoring 27 points. Dai Dai Ames also shined, hitting 5 of 6 three-pointers and totaling 25 points for the Golden Bears (3-1).

Kansas State dominated early, leading 55-34 at halftime. They extended their advantage to 24 points early in the second half before California mounted a rally. The Golden Bears’ comeback was fueled by the sharpshooting of Ames and Bell, who combined for 39 points after the break. Despite the late surge, Kansas State held on for the narrow victory.
