What Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner said about each other at ATP Finals presentation ceremony

Carlos Alcaraz might have lost to Jannik Sinner in the final of the 2025 ATP Finals on Sunday, but he won the hearts of the Italian fans in Turin with a warm message to his opponent in front of his home crowd.

Both Alcaraz and Sinner entered the final unbeaten in the tournament, each holding a perfect 4-0 record. However, on Sunday, it was Sinner who prevailed. The Italian lost serve only once throughout the match, winning 7-6(4), 7-5 to claim his second consecutive title at the year-end tournament.

During the presentation ceremony, Alcaraz was full of praise for Sinner’s exceptional performance. He lauded Sinner as a great player and acknowledged the hard work of his team.

“I’m just really, really happy with the level I played today. I played against someone who hasn’t lost a match on an indoor court in two years. That shows what a great player you are. You and your team are putting in great work every time. You come back even stronger after every loss. You don’t have many, but you come back stronger. Well deserved,” Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz also wished Sinner well during the off-season, highlighting that the ATP Finals would be the last tournament the World No. 2 plays this year.

“I want to say it’s been a great year for you. It’s time to rest. I hope you’ll be ready for next year because I’ll be ready. Hopefully, I’ll play more finals against you. Well deserved year. Well deserved trophy,” he added.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz plans to play one more tournament before closing out the year — the Davis Cup, where he will represent Spain.

When it was his turn to speak, Sinner returned the compliment, praising Alcaraz for his outstanding season that culminated in him finishing as the year-end World No. 1.

“Amazing season, Carlos. Amazing what you’re doing. The whole team—I know it’s a lot of work. You’ve created many great memories for your career. Well deserved for the year-end No. 1 ranking. I’m extremely happy for you. If it were any other player, I’d always choose you,” Sinner said.

The Italian also expressed how his rivalry with Alcaraz has made him a better player, constantly motivating him to improve.

“You are definitely a player I look up to. A lot of motivation. I need this. Every practice session has a big purpose. We are all very happy. The whole fanbase is very happy to see you play. You’re the most energetic player on tour. I wish you the best of luck. I hope to see you again next year. Hopefully, we have many great battles ahead of us,” he added.

Sinner, who has led Italy to the Davis Cup title in the past two years, has chosen to rest this season. Italy’s No. 2 player, Lorenzo Musetti, has also withdrawn from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz will lead the Spanish line-up. Other notable teams competing for the Davis Cup title this year include Germany, Czechia, Belgium, Austria, Argentina, and France.
