By Thomas Sellers Jr. Some of the names of the schools have changed and vital educators to Millington’s children have come and gone, but since 2012 the Millington Education Foundation has worked alongside the leadership of Millington Municipal Schools to pour money back into the classroom for the students. The 2025 edition of the MEF Grant Ceremony took place in the Performing Arts Center with MMSD Superintendent James “Bo” Griffin opening the doors for dozens of key contributors to everyday, frontline education. Joining the festivities was Millington Mayor Larry Dagen. MEF Chairman Cary Vaughn had the honors of welcoming the principals of the four MMSD institutions with Millington Central Middle High School’s Michael Perry, Millington Early Learning Academy’s Georgette Farmer, Millington Intermediate School’s James Brown and Millington Primary School’s Natasha Perkins. Through fundraisers and donations, the MEF raised a total of $14,215.. 49. Nearly 25 grants were awarded through the four learning environments. MCMHS received $6,468. 76 for 10 activities ranging from STEM to ELA Books. MELA picked up $687 for writing boards to help handwriting. MIS received $1,395. 83 for three grants going partially toward organizers and novels. Finally MPS wrote 11 grants receiving $5,663. 90 that will help students develop in STEM, literacy and display art. Since the rebirth of the Education Foundation in 2012, nearly $200,000 has been donated to teachers and their causes. MEF Treasurer Beth Hearn said the link to submit grants and stay inform is always available for Millington’s educators ( The MEF mission statement is to generate and distribute resources for the benefit of the Millington Schools to enrich, maintain and expand programs needed to meet the schools stated mission of excellence in education. The goal is to promote and enhance educational excellence by providing independent funding that would not typically be covered by the school budget for worthy educational projects, enrichment programs, and other educational initiatives beyond the standard curriculum.
