The Ten Commandments

Are the Ten Commandments really obsolete? Are these guidelines for living still relevant? Are these divine principles out-of-date for our modern, face-paced world? Have these rules been rescinded or cancelled? Have they been superseded by man’s standards? This chaplain happens to be old-fashioned enough to believe that the Ten Commandments, these time-tested standards of right living given to man by God Almighty through Moses a few thousand years ago, are still relevant for you and me and for all mankind. They are recorded in Exodus 20: 1-17. Here they are. 1. You shall have no other Gods before me (love the only true God). 2. You shall not make yourself an idol (worship God in spirit and truth). 3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God (reverence God’s name and its use). 4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy (honor every day as God’s special day). 5. Honor your father and your mother (honor the ones who gave us life) 6. You shall not murder (honor the sacredness of life). 7. You shall not commit adultery (honor the marriage relationship). 8. You shall not steal (respect the person and property of others). 9. You shall not give false testimony (be a person of truth). 10. You shall not covet (be content and grateful with what you have). Man in unable to improve upon these God-taught and time-tested moral standards for right living. They were given for our good so that we might avoid needless trouble, heartache and disaster. They will always exceed our grasp, but we must make the attempt to live by them. God help us. Peace!.
