“You can’t make any sense out of this” – Former India keeper slams Rishabh Pant over rash dismissal on Day 3 of 2nd IND vs SA 2025 Test

Former India keeper-batter Saba Karim criticized Rishabh Pant for playing a horrendous stroke to get out on Day 3 of the Guwahati Test against South Africa. Karim opined that Pant ought to have shown greater maturity considering he is leading the team in this Test match. South Africa continued their domination over India on Day 3 of the second Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, November 24. Resuming their first innings at 9-0, India were bowled out for 201 in 83. 5 overs. Pant was dismissed for seven, caught behind off Marco Jansen. He charged down the pitch to the left-arm pacer, but only managed to get an edge. During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Karim questioned Pant’s tactics and opined that he could have tried to counter-attack after getting his eye in. He said: “You can’t make any sense out of this. How do you explain this? It’s very difficult. Maybe first time in his Test career, Rishabh Pant may not be able to explain this. This happened immediately after tea. You are the captain of the side, you need to shoulder some responsibility. You have got enough experience of playing at that level. So, you lead by example. You lead by absorbing pressure and taking blows. “All that was missing in Rishabh Pant’s approach. I can understand you have to play your natural game, but you can do so by spending some time at the crease,” Karim added. Pant’s dismissal left India in massive trouble at 105 for 5. They were all out for 201 as Jansen finished with 6-48 to go with his quick-fire 93 with the bat. For the hosts, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored with 58, while Washington Sundar hit 48. “Pushes your entire team into a corner” Saba Karim on the most disappointing aspect of Pant’s dismissal on Day 3 of IND vs SA 2025 Test Karim agreed that Pant has been dismissed attempting such strokes in the past as well and that the same approach has brought his success as well. However, he stressed on the fact that the captain should have taken the situation of the game into account. The 58-year-old elaborated: “Playing such high-risk shots at that stage of the game pushes your entire team into a corner. Now, India have found themselves in such a difficult position. It will be very difficult for them to get out of it.” At stumps on Day 3, South Africa were 26-0 after eight overs in their second innings. The visitors have an overall lead of 314 runs.
