HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Thousands of people who thought they were paying to park at NRG Park were actually being scammed, police say. Warrants were issued for two NRG Park parking attendants this week in connection with the alleged scheme. A third parking attendant was arrested in March for his purported role. Investigators say the attendants would present NRG Park visitors with a Square payment device to pay for parking. Unbeknownst to the customers, police say the Square accounts were actually operated by the parking attendants themselves and not NRG Park. Police say Reginald Smith racked up $25,970 in fraudulent charges between December 2024 and March 2025. Records show Smith has four felony convictions in Texas, including for robbery and credit card abuse. Police say they caught him in the act on March 19 after setting up a sting and that he led them to the other two parking attendants, Vincent Ward and Taelor Miller. Police say Miller fraudulently charged customers $58,523 over a seven-month period while Ward charged $126,513. Together, police say all three are responsible for 7, 162 fraudulent transactions. Charging documents indicate NRG Park was aware something was amiss as early as August 2024, when a Texans fan who paid $50 to park was turned away and told the lot he’d paid to park in was all pre-paid parking. At that time, a parking manager informed him she’d had issues with the same parking attendant he’d paid. NRG Park declined to comment on specifics but provided the following tips for parking at NRG: Confirm the posted parking price before paying, including any applicable taxes and fees. Always scan the official QR code displayed on NRG Park parking signage. After payment, this will ensure you receive a digital receipt. Official NRG Park parking receipts contain unique identifiers that verify the transaction was processed through our authorized system. When applicable, guests may pre-purchase parking online.
