**Stonehill College Tops Le Moyne Men’s Basketball 65-54 in NEC Action**
Syracuse, N.Y. – Davante Hackett registered a double-double to lead Stonehill College to a 65-54 victory over the Le Moyne College men’s basketball team in Northeast Conference (NEC) action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.
Redshirt junior swingman Trent Mosquera (Boston, Mass./Belmont Hill School) finished with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, adding three assists, three blocks, and two steals. Junior guard Samuel Hincapie (Medellin, Colombia/Gateway Legacy Prep (Mo.)/Lake Land College) was the only other Dolphin to reach double figures with 10 points, all coming in the second half.
For the Skyhawks, Hackett led the way with 22 points and a career-best 15 rebounds, while also contributing three assists. Hermann Koffi posted 15 points, and Ethan Meuser tallied a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with three blocks.
The game started with Stonehill scoring the first four points and building an 18-8 lead through eight minutes. Hackett sparked the run with seven points, Koffi added six, and Raymond Espinal-Guzman drained a three-pointer.
Le Moyne responded with Mosquera scoring five points in just 28 seconds to ignite an 18-6 run, giving the Dolphins a 26-24 lead with 3:04 left in the first half. Sophomore forward Isaac Nyakundi (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East/The MacDuffie School (Mass.)) contributed six points, while Mosquera’s three-pointer tied the score before junior swingman Tennessee Rainwater (Davenport, Wash./Davenport/Utah Tech) put the Dolphins ahead with a lay-up.
Stonehill closed out the half strong, scoring eight of the final 10 points to lead 32-28 at intermission. Meuser scored the first five points to start the run, followed by a Hackett three-pointer at the buzzer.
The Dolphins opened the second half with four quick points to tie the game at 32, but Hackett quickly responded with a three-pointer and a lay-up, putting the Skyhawks ahead for good.
Despite sophomore guard Jakai Sanders’ (Brooklyn, N.Y./Eagle Academy) three-pointer cutting Stonehill’s lead to 42-40 with 13:53 remaining, Stonehill went on a nine-point streak for its first 11-point advantage of the game. Meuser began the run with a three-pointer, Koffi added a fast-break lay-up, and Hackett contributed two baskets.
Le Moyne fought back, scoring nine of the next 11 points to trim the deficit to 53-49 with 7:20 left. Hincapie hit a three-pointer and a jumper, followed by a three-point play within 62 seconds. Redshirt sophomore guard Deng Garang (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) also converted a foul shot.
However, Stonehill regained control as Rex Sunderland knocked down a three-pointer and Trenton Ruth added two free throws to expand the lead to nine at 58-49 with 4:51 remaining.
After three free throws by the Dolphins narrowed the gap to 58-52 with 3:30 left, Stonehill sealed the win with a 7-2 run to close out the scoring. Meuser drained a three-pointer, Hackett followed with a lay-up, and Koffi made two foul shots after a Rainwater lay-up.
Le Moyne (11-12, 6-4 NEC), which has lost back-to-back games and fallen into a three-way tie for second place in the NEC standings, will return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wagner College.
