CHICAGO (WLS) — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead near a West Side hospital early Monday morning, Chicago police said. Police said the 28-year-old man was found unresponsive on the street in the South Austin neighborhood’s 5500-block of West Flournoy Street just after 2 a. m. That’s near Loretto Hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Daniel L. Figueroa, of Westmont. Loretto Hospital issued a statement, saying, “We are aware of the tragic incident reported this morning involving an individual slain near our campus. On behalf of Loretto Hospital, our prayers and condolences go out to the individual’s family and loved ones. Our focus remains on supporting the safety, health, and well-being of the community we serve during this difficult time. We are cooperating fully with local law enforcement on this active investigation.” Area detectives are investigating. Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
