In a significant update aimed at enhancing digital payment security, Paytm and Google Pay have introduced a new feature allowing users to create personalized Unified Payments Interface (UPI) IDs. This move is designed to counter the rising number of scams where fraudsters trick users into revealing sensitive information linked to their UPI IDs.
### What’s New?
Previously, UPI IDs were often directly linked to users’ mobile numbers, making them easier targets for phishing attempts. With the new feature, users can now choose customized UPI IDs incorporating letters and numbers, adding an extra layer of security to their digital transactions.
### How to Create a Personalized UPI ID on Paytm
Creating a custom UPI ID on Paytm is straightforward:
1. Open the Paytm app.
2. Tap your profile icon located at the top left corner.
3. Scroll down to the ‘UPI & Payment settings’ section.
4. Here, you can view all your linked UPI accounts and IDs.
5. Tap ‘View’ to see your current UPI ID and opt to create a new one using alphabets and digits.
6. You can also set up backup UPI IDs to prevent transaction failures.

The launch of personalized UPI IDs marks a major step toward strengthening security and boosting user confidence in digital payments. This update also aligns with the recent regulatory directives requiring payment apps to enforce stricter controls on payment requests.
