“This is hella weird” – WNBA fans drag Colts for scrubbing Caitlin Clark post after backlash over controversial Fever caption

Caitlin Clark and several of her Indiana Fever teammates attended the Indiana Colts game on Sunday, where the Colts faced off against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Colts dominated the game, securing a decisive 40-6 victory.

During a break in the game, the Fever stars were spotted in the stands and were gifted free football jerseys. In a special gesture, three of the Fever players were awarded their jersey numbers for the WNBA: Caitlin Clark received number 22, Makayla Epps (not Thompson) was given number 21, and Aari McDonald took number 2.

While this was a great way to honor fellow Indiana athletes, some fans were disappointed by the Colts’ social media coverage. When the Colts posted a video of the Fever players putting on their jerseys, Caitlin Clark was referred to simply as “22” in the caption—her actual name was not mentioned. Following backlash from fans, the Colts’ social media pages removed the post.

After the deletion, many fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts and express their disappointment over the omission.

### Caitlin Clark and WNBA Stars Call for Change in League Leadership

The WNBA is currently experiencing a period of unrest, with some of its top players voicing the need for change in league leadership. Caitlin Clark, one of the league’s brightest stars after just two seasons, is among those advocating for progress.

Clark, alongside other prominent players such as Napheesa Collier, believes that WNBA athletes deserve better compensation. Clark commented on the situation, saying:
“First of all, I have great respect for Napheesa Collier. I think she made a lot of very valid points. What people need to understand is that we need great leadership at this time across all levels. This is straight up the most important moment in this league’s history. This is a moment we have to capitalize on.”

However, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert reportedly expressed a different view. She allegedly stated that Caitlin Clark should be appreciative of the opportunities provided by the league, implying that without the WNBA, Clark might not have achieved the global stardom and off-court earnings she currently enjoys.

Although Engelbert denies ever making these comments, Napheesa Collier claims she heard the commissioner’s remarks and insists that new leadership is needed in the WNBA.

As the league navigates these challenges, the voices of players like Clark and Collier highlight the ongoing dialogue about the future of women’s basketball and its leadership. Fans and athletes alike will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how the league responds to these calls for change.
