Cowboys RB Javonte Williams Opens Up on Returning to Denver to Face Broncos

The Dallas Cowboys picked up a much-needed blowout victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 7, pushing their record to 3-3-1 on the year. Once again, it was the Cowboys’ high-powered offense that led them to victory, and a player who has continually played a big role in the team’s success so far is running back Javonte Williams.

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the Denver Broncos, Williams signed with Dallas in free agency over the offseason. He is currently in the process of turning in the best year of his career.

### Javonte Williams Looking Forward to Impending Denver Return

Despite starting just one game as a rookie in 2021, Williams racked up 903 rushing yards and four touchdowns for the Broncos. He also caught 43 passes for 316 yards and three more scores that season.

Williams unsurprisingly won the starting running back job in 2022, but his season was cut short due to tears in his ACL, LCL, and posterolateral corner in his knee. He returned in 2023, yet over the next two seasons, he didn’t quite look like the same player he was as a rookie, averaging below four yards per carry both years.

Denver decided to let Williams leave in free agency, and Dallas took a chance on him, hoping he could rediscover his prior form. Sure enough, Williams has been a star for the Cowboys so far this year. Through seven games, he has rushed for 592 yards and six touchdowns, while also catching 23 passes for 85 yards and another score.

Williams is on a roll, and while he’s looking forward to playing against the Broncos, he downplayed the idea that this game holds any special significance.

> “I’m just gonna go out there and play my game,” Williams said when asked if this would be a revenge game of sorts for him. “I’m gonna do what I’ve got to do and try to make plays for my teammates.”

### Javonte Williams Aiming for Another Big Outing in Week 8

Over the past three games, Williams has eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground twice, with both games resulting in wins for the Cowboys. When Williams gets going on the ground, it makes an already dangerous Dallas passing attack even more lethal.

Offensive coordinator Klayton Adams is expected to focus on getting his star running back going early and often in Week 8’s clash.

However, having a big day against the Broncos’ stingy defense won’t be easy. Williams knows this better than most, having faced this defensive unit over the first four years of his career.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon. If the Cowboys want any shot at pulling off an upset victory, they will need Williams to once again have a big day on the ground against his former squad.
