A devastating explosion rocked the Accurate Energetic Systems plant in rural Tennessee on Friday morning, leaving 19 people missing and feared dead, according to authorities.

The blast occurred around 7:45 AM local time at the Hickman-Humphreys County facility, located west of Nashville. The plant manufactures and tests explosives for government contracts.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the scene to the New York Post as “the most devastating scene that I’ve seen in my career.”

### Aftermath

The explosion completely leveled one of the plant’s buildings, leaving behind smoldering wreckage and burnt-out vehicle shells. The blast was so powerful it was felt miles away. Residents in nearby Lobelville reported their homes shaking from the force.

State Representative Jody Barrett, whose home in Dickson is about 15 miles (24 kilometers) away from the site, also felt the impact. She described it as “sounded like something going through the roof of our house.”

### Response Efforts

Emergency crews initially faced difficulties entering the plant due to ongoing detonations. However, by Friday afternoon, officials confirmed that the scene was under control and there was no further danger of explosions.

Grey Collier from the Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency stated that responders had secured the area.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown, and an investigation is underway. Authorities expect that it may take several days to determine the exact reason behind the catastrophic incident.

### Company Profile

Accurate Energetic Systems has been operating since 1980 and describes itself as “a leader in the energetics and explosives industry.” The company works closely with military acquisition offices, defense and aerospace primes, and commercial demolition sectors.

This tragedy is not the first incident to impact the McEwen area. A similar accident occurred in 2014 at Rio Ammunition, where one man was killed and three others injured during cartridge loading operations.

Our thoughts are with the families of those affected as authorities work tirelessly to provide answers and assistance. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
