Sony Is Springing A Surprise Showcase On Fans

Sony has announced its upcoming State of Play showcase, which will spotlight upcoming PlayStation 5 games. This edition will be a bit different from previous ones, as it will specifically highlight games from Japanese developers. Consequently, the stream will be presented entirely in Japanese with English subtitles.

The State of Play Japan stream is scheduled for tomorrow, November 11, at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET / 11 p.m. CEST. It will be hosted by Japanese voice actor Yuki Kaji, who is known internationally for his roles in the Ys and Final Fantasy series.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the 40-minute show will focus on games from developers in Japan as well as broader Asian studios. The showcase promises a variety of titles, featuring both “beloved series” and independent projects.

Typically, when companies host streams like State of Play or Nintendo Direct, the Japanese audience might receive a different version than English-speaking territories. However, it appears this particular show will be the same across both Japanese and English streams.

Fans can watch the event on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel. While the blog post does not provide specifics about which games will be featured, Yuki Kaji’s involvement raises some intriguing possibilities. For instance, we may hear more about the next Ys game.

Earlier this year, Ys X: Proud Nordics—an enhanced port of the original Ys X—was released on the Switch 2. There’s speculation that it might come to the PS5 when it launches in English next year. Alternatively, this could be an opportunity for Sony and the developers to announce a brand-new Ys title. Of course, this remains speculation for now.

Stay tuned for the showcase to find out more about what’s in store for PlayStation 5 gamers, especially fans of Japanese-developed games!
