McQuaide’s 4th TD pass lifts Villanova to 30-27 OT win over Stony Brook

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Pat McQuaide’s fourth touchdown pass, a 17-yard connection with Antonio Johnson in overtime, gave Villanova a 30-27 win over Stony Brook on Saturday, marking the Wildcats’ seventh straight victory.

The Seawolves managed a 23-yard field goal from Michael Mannino with just 32 seconds remaining in regulation. After losing a yard on the opening possession of overtime, Mannino successfully kicked a 44-yard field goal to keep the game close.

McQuaide completed 18 of 30 passes for 280 yards for the Wildcats (8-2, 7-1 Coastal Athletic Conference). His touchdown passes included a 37-yard strike to Braden Reed, and two fourth-quarter throws of 10 and 21 yards to Luke Colella. The second of these scored at 2:39 left in the game, putting Villanova ahead 24-21.

Stony Brook’s quarterback Quinn Boyd was 21-of-33 passing for 278 yards. Boyd led the Seawolves down the field late in the game but, after two incompletions from the 5-yard line, the team settled for a field goal.

Jayce Freeman had six catches for 175 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown for the Seawolves (5-6, 3-4). Roldan Dempster also contributed with two short touchdown runs.
