The North Platte Tree Board’s Tree of the Season is a blaze maple on N. Sheridan. Although the leaves have now fallen from the tree, it has become a signature symbol of the autumn season in the neighborhood, the Tree Board said. The blaze maple reaches its peak brilliance in the fall, transforming into a canopy of vivid reds and glowing oranges that draw attention. It is one of the most striking seasonal displays along Sheridan St., reminding the community of the beauty and the value of healthy trees in the city, the board said. Blaze maples and other trees contribute to year-round environmental benefits, including cooling shade during the summer, improved air quality, reduced stormwater runoff and enhanced wildlife habitat. The tree board extends their thanks to property owners for their ongoing stewardship of trees, and their support of the campaign to recognize exceptional trees across the city and raise awareness of their importance.
