SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) — Kayde Dotson scored 26 points to lead Loyola Chicago to an 80-78 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday.
Dotson shot 7 of 17 from the field, including 5 for 12 from three-point range, and made 7 of 8 free throws for the Ramblers (4-9). Justin Moore contributed 15 points, shooting 6 of 9 from the field and 2 of 4 from the free-throw line. Deywilk Tavarez added 13 points, going 3 for 5 from the field (3 for 4 from three-point range) and was perfect from the line, hitting all four free throws.
The Broncos (9-4) were led by Christian Hammond, who finished with 25 points. Elijah Mahi added 21 points, while Thierry Darlan contributed nine points for Santa Clara.
Dotson scored 11 points in the first half as Loyola Chicago and Santa Clara went into the break tied at 40-40. He then poured in 15 points down the stretch in the second half to help secure a two-point victory for the Ramblers.
With 2 1/2 minutes remaining, Loyola Chicago held a 78-73 lead. Tavarez’s two free throws extended the lead to 80-76 with 10 seconds left, sealing the win.
Santa Clara split the two games they hosted in Santa Cruz this week.
