Under Night In-Birth 2 came to the end of its current slate of DLC during EVO 2025, marking the conclusion of the game’s first season of content. It’s been a long journey for the Under Night In-Birth series, and director Kamone Serizawa along with composer Raito have been thrilled to stay involved since the very beginning.
But what comes next? Where does Under Night In-Birth go from here? Kamone and Raito sat down with us to discuss the evolution of the series and the future of the game.
Kamone expressed his gratitude to the players for their continued support. He never could have imagined that so many people would still be backing Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys: Celes on the main stage at EVO 2025—many years after the release of the first game and with back-to-back appearances at EVO’s main stage.
The development team has been working on Under Night for 10 years, and with Izumi wrapping up the final run of DLC for UNI2, the project’s current chapter feels complete. However, Kamone and Raito shared that they still have plans and would love to keep working on the series to further evolve it.
Since we had Raito on hand, we also took the opportunity to talk extensively about the music of the game. Over the years, Under Night In-Birth’s soundtrack has evolved from simple, short-looping tunes to much more elaborate compositions.
Raito explained that this evolution was influenced by the shift from developing music for arcades—where players experience the game in short bursts and limited time—to home console and PC versions, where players enjoy the game at a more relaxed pace. This transition shaped his approach to composing for the series, which is why the music in Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys: Celes is more complex and drawn out.
As the series looks forward, both Kamone and Raito remain passionate and committed to delivering new experiences for fans, continuing to push the boundaries of Under Night In-Birth’s gameplay and sound.
