EU’s von der Leyen Says She Wants Europe to Stop Buying Russian Oil by End of Year
In a strong response to the Kremlin’s recent incursions, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced her intention for Europe to cease purchasing Russian oil by the end of the year.
During her State of the European Union address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, on September 10, 2025, von der Leyen emphasized the need for Europe to reduce its dependence on Russian energy.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, stating that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter NATO airspace, highlighting the escalating tensions in the region.
