The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and OTT giant Netflix have announced an exciting partnership aimed at promoting India’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant diversity. This collaboration seeks to integrate India’s travel destinations into Netflix’s original storylines, thereby boosting tourism across the country.
**Showcasing India’s Cultural Richness**
V Vidyavathi, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with Netflix reflects our shared commitment to showcasing India’s cultural richness and diversity.” Through this alliance, various films and series on Netflix will highlight the breathtaking beauty of India and its multifaceted traditions.
Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, added, “Through this partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, we’re not just reaffirming our commitment, we’re celebrating the very soul of India. Together we hope to create more opportunities for local talent.”
**A Landmark Collaboration in South Asia**
This marks the Ministry of Tourism’s first partnership with a streaming platform in South Asia. Netflix has already established a significant presence in India, having filmed in over 100 cities across 23 states. This makes Netflix the international streaming platform with the largest filming footprint in the country.
Globally, Netflix has previously collaborated with tourism boards and government agencies in countries such as Korea, Thailand, France, Indonesia, Spain, Brazil, and Greece, leveraging original content to showcase diverse cultures and destinations.
**Netflix’s Growing Impact on Indian Content**
Alongside this strategic partnership, Netflix continues to gain recognition for its Indian productions. Notably, actor Diljit Dosanjh has received a nomination for Best Actor in a Lead Role at the International Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Amar Singh Chamkila in Netflix’s biopic directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film follows Chamkila’s inspiring journey from a Dalit laborer and aspiring musician to a celebrated folk icon.
Other recent Indian projects streaming on Netflix include *The Bads of Bollywood*, *Inspector Zende*, and *Saare Jahan Se Accha*, further enriching the platform’s Indian content portfolio.
With this collaboration, the Ministry of Tourism and Netflix aim to creatively bring India’s cultural narratives and travel destinations to the global stage, encouraging audiences worldwide to explore the diverse experiences that India has to offer.
