**Benin Republic Captain Steve Mounie Vows to Shock Nigeria in 2026 World Cup Qualifier**

Benin Republic captain, Steve Mounie, has vowed that his team will shock the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash in Uyo.

Speaking ahead of the encounter scheduled for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Mounie said the Cheetahs are fully focused on upsetting the odds and taking a giant step toward qualification.

“We play football for moments like this. It’s a historic match for us, and we’ll give everything to take Benin to the World Cup,” the striker said confidently in an interview.

The former Stade Brest forward added that he has been encouraging his teammates to believe in themselves, reminding them of their resilience in past competitions.

“In June, I told the players about my time at Brest, where we faced big clubs in Ligue 1 without fear. I told them we can do the same against Nigeria,” he revealed.

Benin currently tops Group C with 17 points from nine matches, while Nigeria sits third with 14 points. A win in Uyo would keep Benin’s World Cup dream firmly on track.

The encounter is expected to be fiercely contested, as both sides battle for crucial points in the final stretch of the qualification campaign.
