India Expresses Support for President Trump’s Middle East Peace Efforts
India has expressed strong support for President Donald Trump’s efforts to bring lasting peace to the Middle East. In a recent post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the release of all hostages after over two years of captivity, calling their freedom a tribute to the courage of their families, the unwavering peace efforts of President Trump, and the strong resolve of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We support President Trump’s sincere efforts to bring peace to the region,” PM Modi stated.
Earlier, on October 4, PM Modi had reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at achieving a durable and just peace in the region. “We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace,” he said.
Hostage Release Marks Significant Milestone
All 20 living hostages were released by Hamas earlier on Monday as part of a Gaza peace plan. Seven hostages had previously been transferred to the Red Cross prior to the release of the remaining 13.
The released hostages include Elkana Bohbot, Avinatan Or, Yosef-Haim Ohana, Evyatar David, Rom Braslavski, Segev Kalfon, Nimrod Cohen, Maxim Herkin, Eitan Horn, Matan Zangauker, Bar Kupershtein, David Cunio, Ariel Cunio, Gali, Ziv Berman, Matan Angrest, Alon Ohel, Omri Miran, Eitan Mor, and Guy Gilboa-Dallal.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that the remaining 13 hostages were freed by Hamas and were being escorted back to Israel by personnel from the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (ISA) after being handed over to the Red Cross in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis.
Formal End to Two-Year Conflict
Monday also marked the formal end of the two-year war that began on October 7, 2023, following Hamas attacks that claimed over 1,200 Israeli lives and resulted in the abduction of 251 people.
Honoring President Trump’s Role
During a historic session of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, Prime Minister Netanyahu nominated President Trump for the prestigious Israel Prize. Netanyahu called Trump “the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House” and praised his role in brokering the ceasefire.
Netanyahu also highlighted Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem, and his support for Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights as significant contributions to Israeli interests.
India’s continued support for peace efforts underscores its commitment to stability in the Middle East amid significant diplomatic developments.
