The free-ride weekend that helped launch Skyline’s Segment 2, with rail service now running from East Kapolei to Middle Street, is now behind us.
While ridership numbers from this past weekend may appear strong, they won’t truly reflect regular usage until daily routines settle and fares take effect.
Nevertheless, many riders got a taste of new transit possibilities—especially commuters from West Oahu who, until now, had little option but to battle rush-hour traffic.
Let’s hope Skyline’s increased convenience and expanded route, which includes stops at the airport and the Pearl Harbor-Hickam base, will encourage lasting changes in commuting habits.
