**General Information Needed:**
– Your full name
– Address (City, State, Zip Code)
– Phone number
– Alternate phone number (if available)
**Obituary Specifications:**
– Name of the deceased
– Obituary text
– A photo file (JPEG or PDF preferred; TIF and other formats accepted). If there are any issues with the photo, the staff will contact you.
– Ad run dates
*Discount Information:*
There is a discount available for running an obituary more than one day. To receive this discount, it must be scheduled on the first run date. Additionally, if a photo is used, it must be included on both days to qualify for the discount. Contact the obituary desk for more details.
**Policies:**
*Verification of Death:*
To publish an obituary, the contact name and phone number of the funeral home or cremation society handling the arrangements are required. The staff will verify the death by contacting them during business hours. If the deceased’s body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program or a similar program, provide their contact number for verification. Please allow sufficient time for verification, especially on weekends when hours are limited.
Alternatively, a death certificate may be submitted for verification. Only one of these two options is necessary.
*Guestbook and Outside Websites:*
The Pioneer Press does not allow references to other media sources with guestbooks or obituaries placed elsewhere, whether in print or online. However, funeral home websites or a family email for contact information may be included. Please contact the obituary desk with any questions about this policy.
**Obituary Process:**
Upon submission, you will receive a fax or email proof for review before publication. This proof will include pricing and scheduled publication dates. Please review carefully and notify the obituary desk of any errors or changes before the deadlines. The newspaper is not responsible for errors after the final proofing stage.
For changes to online obituaries, contact the obituary desk.
**Payment Procedure:**
Pre-payment is required before publication and must be completed by the specified deadlines.
Accepted payment methods:
– Credit card (phone payment only due to PCI regulations)
– EFT (provide routing and account numbers by phone)
– Cash (accepted at the front counter, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Call 651-228-5263 with your payment information after you approve the proof.
**Rates:**
– Minimum charge: $162 for the first 10 lines
– Each additional line after the first 10: $12.20 per line
– Ads under 10 lines are charged the minimum of $162
– Second run date: $8.20 per line starting from the first line
– Photo charge: $125 per photo, per day
*Example:*
A 20-line obituary on the first run would cost $164. Two photos published over two days would result in 4 photo charges totaling $500.
**Deadlines:**
Please adhere strictly to deadlines to ensure publication on the requested date.
– Submission hours and deadlines: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
– No exceptions are made for missed deadlines
**Memoriam (Non-Obituary) Requests:**
A memoriam is a remembrance, different from an obituary, and has separate rates. For more information or to place a memoriam ad, contact the memoriams desk at [email protected] or call 651-228-5280.
