Mass shooting reported at Lincoln University in Chester County

At least several people were shot at Lincoln University in southern Chester County on Saturday night. The gunfire began shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the area of the International Cultural Center.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office issued the following statement:
“The Chester County District Attorney’s Office is aware of a shooting with multiple victims that occurred at Lincoln University this evening. Law enforcement has responded to the scene and are actively investigating. Please avoid the area at this time.”

Eric Roe, a Chester County commissioner, also released a statement:
“Please join me in praying for the students and faculty of Lincoln University, as well as the brave members of law enforcement on the scene. It appears there has been a mass shooting there tonight.”

Radio traffic revealed mass confusion in the wake of the shootings. Gridlocked conditions were reported at Baltimore Pike, near the entrance to the campus, as personnel worked to clear the way for ambulances to access the area.

Even an hour after the initial gunfire, campus police and personnel reported a gunshot victim at College Circle and Elkdale. That victim was soon transported to a hospital by ambulance.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., a brawl was reported at the stadium but later dispersed. A command post was established at the International Cultural Center, and police began sweeping campus buildings.

At this time, it remains unclear whether there was one gunman or multiple shooters, or if the incident was the result of a dispute. The exact number of people shot is also uncertain, but it is likely at least four victims. Their medical conditions have not yet been released.

The situation was still unfolding shortly after 11 p.m. Further details will be provided as they become available.
