Former NFL star Adrian Peterson arrested in Houston suburb on DWI and gun charges

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been arrested in a Houston suburb on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawfully carrying a weapon, according to court records.

Peterson was taken into custody on Sunday in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston, as reported by Houston television station KHOU. This marks his second DWI arrest within seven months.

The 40-year-old Peterson, who was the 2012 NFL MVP and a three-time league rushing champion, has longstanding ties to the Houston area. A high school football star in East Texas, he played college football at Oklahoma before being selected No. 7 overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.

Earlier this year, Peterson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Minneapolis in April after attending an NFL draft party for Vikings fans. At that time, he was pulled over for speeding prior to the arrest.

Details surrounding his recent arrest in Texas remain limited, and there has been no information released regarding legal representation for Peterson.

Throughout his 15-season NFL career, Peterson distinguished himself as one of the league’s elite running backs. He is one of only nine players to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season, achieving 2,097 yards during his MVP campaign in 2012. Over his career, he accumulated 14,918 rushing yards and scored 120 touchdowns while playing for six different teams in his final five seasons.
