Hurricane Melissa unleashed a demonic wail as it made landfall in Jamaica with 185 mph winds on Tuesday. The storm screamed as it collided head-on with Treasure Beach, a small outcropping on the island’s southwest coast that bore the brunt of the impact.
A live camera and microphone on the beach captured the unearthly wail as the storm screamed ashore. The camera’s lens was almost entirely obscured by flying rain and debris as the terrible winds swept by.
Amid the mayhem, only tilting palm trees and a strained telephone pole remained faintly visible through the chaos.
