Trump Offers Little Tariff Relief for Asean Countries

President Donald Trump’s latest trade deals with Southeast Asian nations risk seeing those countries receive less favorable terms than Washington, according to Bloomberg Economics.

Cambodia’s agreement—the only one detailed enough to scrutinize that was released during his trip to the region this week—offers “a bad omen for others hoping to meaningfully cut reciprocal tariffs,” said Nicole Gorton-Caratelli and Tamara Mast Henderson in a research note published Wednesday.

Their analysis suggests that the deals may not deliver the balanced benefits that some had anticipated, raising concerns about the overall value for Southeast Asian partners.
