On a scale of 1 to 10, the meeting with President Xi was a 12. A lot of important decisions were made, and I will be providing conclusions on key matters soon.
Purchases of soybeans will begin immediately, signaling a positive step forward in trade relations. Both sides agreed that China will work very hard to address the fentanyl problem. Additionally, we agreed to reduce fentanyl-related tariffs.
While not everything was discussed, we did cover the topic of chips. China will be engaging with Nvidia and other companies regarding chip purchases, but there was no discussion about Nvidia’s Blackwell chips.
The rare earth issue has been settled, and there will be no more roadblocks. This is a one-year agreement with plans for extension. Furthermore, tariffs on China will be reduced from 57% to 47%.
I will be traveling to China in April, and President Xi will be visiting the United States sometime afterward. We plan to work together on Ukraine to achieve progress on that front.
Interestingly, Taiwan did not come up during the talks. Finally, with other nations testing nuclear arms, it is appropriate that we do the same.
