Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami’s hopes of making an international comeback suffered another setback after he was not picked in the 15-man squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. India will play two Tests at home against the Proteas from November 14 to November 26. The Team India squad for the red-ball series was announced on Wednesday, November 5.
India recalled keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, following his recovery from a foot injury. However, there was no place for pacer Shami, who has claimed 15 wickets in three matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. The 35-year-old claimed seven wickets for Bengal against Uttarakhand and eight wickets against Gujarat. Both games were played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Shami last represented Team India in the Champions Trophy final in March this year in the UAE. His last T20I came a month earlier, but he has not played Test cricket since the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023.
