Daniel Jencko scored twice as UMass shut out Maine 4-0 in a Hockey East matchup on Friday night in Amherst, Massachusetts, snapping Maine’s four-game winning streak.
The Minutemen took an early lead when Francesco Dell’Elce scored midway through the first period, putting UMass ahead 1-0. Jencko extended the lead with a power-play goal in the second period, followed by Lucas Olvestad’s goal later in the frame to make it 3-0.
Jencko sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the third period, marking his second goal of the night.
UMass improved to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in Hockey East play, while Maine dropped to 6-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Goalies played a significant role in the game, with Albin Boija stopping 31 shots for Maine and Jackson Irving making 38 saves for UMass.
