Eureka Entertainment has announced the release of *King of Beggars*, the classic Stephen Chow martial arts comedy directed by Gordon Chan. This beloved film is presented from a new 2K restoration on Blu-ray, marking its first availability outside of Asia as part of the Eureka Classics range.
Available from January 27th, 2026, in North America, this special edition is strictly limited to 2,000 copies. Each copy is housed in an attractive O-card slipcase and includes a collector’s booklet, making it a must-have for fans and collectors alike.

At the dawn of the 1990s, after a decade dominated by Hong Kong martial arts cinema icons Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, a new superstar emerged: Stephen Chow. Chow quickly rose to fame starring in hit series such as *Fight Back to School* and *Royal Tramp*. In *King of Beggars*, he delivers a comedic take on the story of the famed martial artist and folk hero So Chan.
So Chan (played by Chow) is naturally gifted in martial arts but is lazy, unmotivated, and spoiled by his wealthy parents. His life takes a turn when he falls in love with Yu Shang (Sharla Cheung), a prostitute who agrees to marry him on one condition: that he enters and wins the upcoming imperial martial arts tournament.

What starts as a simple desire to win Yu Shang’s hand in marriage soon draws So Chan into a bitter feud between the famed Beggar Clan and a corrupt government official, Chiu Mo-kei (Norman Chiu). The film vividly brings to life the legendary character So Chan—popularly known as Beggar So—a master of drunken boxing who lived during the late Qing dynasty.
Beggar So is a beloved figure previously portrayed by iconic actors such as Yuen Siu-tien, Lau Kar-leung, Philip Kwok, Chow Yun-fat, and Gordon Liu. In this film, Stephen Chow breathes new life into the character as a star on the rise.
