Tommy Edman to Undergo Right Ankle Surgery, Could Be Ready for Spring Training
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Tommy Edman is scheduled to have right ankle surgery next week, general manager Brandon Gomes revealed Tuesday during the Major League Baseball GM meetings.
Gomes expressed optimism about Edman’s recovery timeline, stating that the player could be ready in time for spring training.
Edman has been coping with a persistent ankle injury since midway through the 2024 season while he was with the St. Louis Cardinals. Despite the injury, he continued to play, was traded to the Dodgers in July, and ultimately earned the NL Championship Series MVP honors.
Although Edman batted just .143 in this year’s seven-game World Series victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, he made several crucial defensive plays at both second base and center field, helping the Dodgers secure back-to-back championships.
Last offseason, Edman signed a $74 million, five-year contract, underscoring the Dodgers’ confidence in his abilities moving forward.
