Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson’s stint with the New York Giants has not unfolded as he might have expected when he signed with the team earlier this year in March. After losing the starting role to rookie Jaxson Dart earlier this season, Wilson relieved Dart on Sunday in the game against the Chicago Bears. However, Wilson’s performance during his relief appearance failed to impress.
His outing earned him a “Mr. Limited” jab from NFL insider Scott Van Pelt—a play on Wilson’s self-proclaimed nickname of “Mr. Unlimited” from 2018. Following backlash on social media, Van Pelt issued an apology on his podcast for the remark.
“During the Giants game, at the end of it, I sent out a tweet about Russell Wilson, I said, ‘Mr. Limited.’ That was mean,” Van Pelt admitted. “Don’t do sh*t like that. I don’t send out snarky tweets. That was small. We shouldn’t do that. That’s not the way to act. Don’t be a d*ck on Twitter and that’s what that was.”
Van Pelt expressed surprise at the level of support Wilson received online despite his declining numbers over the past few seasons. “But it was fascinating to find out there is a Russell hive out there that came for my head and told me I was a bald b*tch,” he said. “I don’t know how that works, but it was fascinating to find out that there were folks that were ready to come for my head as if the last four years of Russell Wilson is all a made-up thing. Sending out that tweet, that’s just small and dumb, and I don’t aspire to do small dumb things.”
### Russell Wilson Accepts Backup Role for Giants’ Game Against Packers
With Jaxson Dart sidelined for Sunday’s game due to a concussion, Jameis Winston has been named the starter against the Green Bay Packers. Despite being the backup to Winston for Week 11, Russell Wilson is fully prepared to embrace his role.
“Obviously, I want to play, but Jameis has worked his butt off, so this is a great opportunity for him,” Wilson said. “The guy’s played in this league for a long time, and he’s one of my closest friends. He can spin the rock. He’s a great leader for us. I know he’ll do a great job.”
Wilson added, “I’m going to help him prepare the best way possible. We have great dialogue. And I’ll be ready to go [as the backup].”
Sunday’s game against the Packers will also mark the first time the Giants will play without head coach Brian Daboll, who was fired on Monday after more than three seasons with the team.
