Indiana football has longest active home winning streak. Will it return in CFP? ‘We’ll see’

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana — Indiana football has come a long way since the days when Coach Curt Cignetti had to send out emails encouraging fans to pack Memorial Stadium and stay until the clock hit zero.

The No. 2 Hoosiers (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) wrapped up a second straight undefeated season at home on Saturday with a commanding 31-7 win over Wisconsin. With Alabama’s recent loss to Oklahoma, Indiana now boasts the longest active home winning streak in the FBS at 15 games.

This season, Cignetti didn’t have to prod the fan base into action. IU sold out its entire Big Ten schedule, and the 55,042 fans in attendance on Saturday stayed in their seats throughout the game.

“We feed off of their energy,” Cignetti said after the game. “I really think that us playing at home is at least a 14-point advantage.”

While Cignetti’s comments might sound like hyperbole, the numbers back up his statement. During his tenure, the Hoosiers have beaten their opponents by an average of 37.9 points per game at Memorial Stadium. In 2025 alone, Indiana has won by an average of 40.7 points at home, without a single game in Bloomington decided by single digits. They even defeated three teams by 50 or more points, with two of those wins coming against Big Ten opponents.

“Our fans are the best in America,” Cignetti added. “I know everybody says that, but it’s because they’ve got it going and pack the house. I love our fans. I know where we started and where we are now, and they are over the top. I can’t say enough good things about them.”

Indiana has sold out 18 games since Memorial Stadium expanded in 1970 to hold 50,000-plus fans, with eight of those sellouts occurring during Cignetti’s tenure. This season marked only the sixth time in program history that IU sold out multiple home games in the same season.

“We don’t know for a fact that it is our last game here at home,” Cignetti said. “We hope it is. It’s kind of weird to say. We’ll see what happens.”
