“Taking big risks in big times” – Bergen Reilly gets real about her growth as player while competing for Nebraska volleyball team

The Nebraska volleyball team’s Bergen Reilly recently opened up about growing as a setter during her journey with the program. Reilly joined the Huskers program in 2023 as a freshman and became the first freshman to win Big Ten Setter of the Year since 2012. She was also honored with the All-Big Ten First Team, AVCA All-Region, and Big Ten All-Freshman Team. While currently representing the Nebraska Volleyball team as a junior, she reflected on her progress as a setter in the last two years. In an interview with the Nebraska Huskers, Reilly explained that while in her freshman year, she only followed the basics, in her current year, she is focusing on creating her own style. The setter further added that she is taking more risks as she trusts her teammates to support her. “Like freshman year, it was kind of like I was a good setter, but that was kind of the extent of it,” she said. “But this year, it’s just like that next step was just like becoming my own version. And that involves like running different plays and trying things out, taking big risks in big times. And I think that’s been something that we’ve really focused on this year, is just playing free enough to be able to take those risks and trust that everyone around you is going to support those risks.” (13: 00 onwards) Reilly is showcasing an impressive performance throughout the season by scoring 10. 06 assisfts per set and contributing a team-high of 2. 62 digs per set. She bagged this feat along with her Nebraska Volleyball teammates Harper Murray and Andi Jackson. Reilly is currently standing No. 4 in the program’s history in career assists in the rally scoring era with 3, 318. The setter was also named Big Ten Setter of the Week three times this season. The final list of the 2025 AVCA Division I Women’s Volleyball award will be published on December 15, 2025. The award will be represented by Nike at the AVCA Awards Banquet in Kansas City on Friday, December 19.
