Tarik Skubal opens up about hearing his name in trade rumors

Tarik Skubal says that hearing his name in trade rumors doesn’t faze him but he’s wondering why his name is being floated around in the first place. During an appearance on “Foul Territory” on Thursday, Skubal, 29, opened up about how trade speculation has surrounded him this offseason, saying that the rumors are “hard not to see” with social media. “At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter,” Skubal said. “It’s not going to impact who I am on a day-to-day basis. It’s not going to impact the way I work out or the way I’m going to throw and prepare to get my body ready to go for another season.” Skubal added that whether the Tigers trade him or not is ultimately out of his control. The southpaw said he ideally does not want to leave Detroit. “It’s all out of my control. It’s not like I want to be traded, so it’s kind of like, why am I in these conversations to begin with?” he said. “At the end of the day, it doesn’t really impact anything that I’m going to do day-to-day. “I try to just stay off of it and not look at it. That’s how I have handled it at the trade deadline and years past, and it seems to work for me.” Skubal, who won his second straight Cy Young award this season, had a nearly $250 million gap in contract negotiation talks last season, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported in October. The two-time All-Star is slated to enter free agency after next season, with the likely ask for Skubal being $400 million. In 31 starts this past season, Skubal held an American League-best 2. 21 ERA with 241 strikeouts in 195⅓ innings, pitching to a 13-6 record. His 0. 89 WHIP led the majors.
