Graham Linehan has been found guilty of damaging the phone of a trans activist but cleared of harassing her on social media. The Father Ted co-creator, who posts vehemently anti-trans messages, was fined £500 ($655) and ordered to pay costs of £650 and a statutory surcharge of £200, according to BBC News. The court was told that Linehan “deliberately whacked” Sophia Brooks’ phone out of her hand outside a conference last year. While BBC News reported that the court also heard Linehan had “relentlessly” posted abusive comments about Brooks on social media, the judge said these posts did not constitute harassment. Linehan had denied both charges. The court case came a few weeks after Linehan said he was arrested at Heathrow Airport and later bailed after posts he made on X, having posted a tweet saying: “If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls.” Linehan said he fell ill and was taken to hospital after being arrested. X boss Elon Musk backed him over the tweets and said the UK had become a “police state.”.
