A judge on Tuesday ordered the euthanasia of two dogs authorities say killed a Tyler woman last week. Madison Riley Hull, 23, was attacked by three pit bulls she was dog-sitting Friday afternoon. When Smith County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home on Northwood Drive, a deputy shot and killed one of the three dogs. The other two were seized under a court-issued warrant until a court could decide their fate. On Tuesday, Smith County Judge Andy Dunklin ordered the other two dogs to be euthanized after an agreement was reached. A court hearing was previously scheduled for Wednesday in Dunklin’s Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace courtroom but was later canceled after the agreed order was signed by Dunklin and Assistant Criminal Districyt Attorney Thomas Wilson. Court records state the dogs’ owners waived their right to a hearing. The order directs Smith County Animal Control or another authorized agency to humanely euthanize the dogs under Texas law (Section 822. 004 of the Texas Health and Safety Code). Hull was dog-sitting when she was attacked by the dogs. Around 4: 15 p. m. Friday, deputies from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call and found Hull lying in the backyard. She died from her injuries. According to court documents, the dogs caused Hull’s death by “attacking,” “biting,” and “mauling” her. With the owner’s agreements, the legal proceedings will conclude without a formal hearing.
